Merle A. Schneider, age 74, of Johnstown (formerly of Trumbull, Connecticut), passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at the Nathan Littauer Nursing Home, Gloversville after a brief illness.

Mrs. Schneider was born on August 27, 1938 in Norwalk, Connecticut, the daughter of Albert Vanak and Ann Gleason Vanak.

She was a homemaker who enjoyed playing in various bowling leagues and was a board member of the Women's International Bowling Congress. She loved spending time at Caroga Lake with her friends and family.

Merle is survived by two sons Robert E. Schneider, Jr. of Connecticut and Scott (Frances) Schneider of Johnstown; two brothers Paul Vanak of Florida and Bruce Vanak of Connecticut; two grandsons Robert E. Schneider, III and Jason Schneider; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Schneider was predeceased by her husband Robert E. Schneider, Sr.

In keeping with Merle's wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service.

Cremation will be at Vale Crematory, Schenectady.

The family would like to send their sincere thanks to Deb Lobdell who provided such compassionate care to Merle and her family during the last several years, as well as to the staff at Nathan Littauer Nursing Home.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, Inc., 215 East Main Street, Johnstown.
