Mary S. Goot, 96, of Johnstown, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, after a brief illness.

Mrs. Goot was born on December 4, 1916 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Michael Stanko and Helen Roman Stanko.

Mary worked for many years as a Glove Maker at the George Johns Glove Company in Johnstown. She was of the Catholic faith, a longtime communicant of the former St. Patrick's Church and current Holy Trinity Parish. She was also a member of the Shirley J. Luck Senior Citizen Service Center.

On November 13, 1937, she was united in marriage to Matthew M. Goot, Sr., who passed away on August 31, 2010.

Mrs. Goot is survived by one son Matthew Michael (Debbie) Goot, Jr. of El Puerto de Santa Maria, Spain; six grandchildren Michael Goot, Douglas Goot, Sandra Gilchrist, Edward Johnson, Eric and David Johnson, nine great grandchildren, one sister-in-law Kathryn Quackenbush of Fonda and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by one daughter Evelyn Ann Johnson and three sisters and two brothers.

Friends and family may call on Mary's family from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, January 18th at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Melcher Street, Johnstown.

A Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Trinity Church, Johnstown with interment following at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Johnstown, will be held in spring.

Memorial contributions in Mary's memory may be made to the Shirley J. Luck Senior Citizen Service Center, 109 East Main Street, Johnstown, New York 12095.

    I was so sorry to hear about Mary. She and Matt were great people who would do anything they could to help someone. My husband Karl spent many, many hours on the golf course and at the bowling alley with Matt and we both got to know Matt and Marry quite well. Keep all they good memories you have of them both...that will get you through the difficult times.
